Community Action was established over forty-five years ago by Congress as a centerpiece of the War on Poverty.  The goal of Community Action is to reduce poverty, revitalize low-income communities and empower low-income individuals and families to become fully self-sufficient.

New River Community Action (NRCA) has been a well-known proponent of self-sufficiency in the New River Valley of Virginia since 1965., with the mission to promote and support the well-being and self-reliance of individuals, families and communities.

The Floyd county branch of the program is designed to provide temporary rental assistance, utilities, food, household products, etc., of individuals and families residing in the Floyd area, and transients who are experiencing a financial crisis who meet the guidelines. 100% of donations go directly towards support, and are not used administratively.
